George Steeples was born in Derby, lived in Old Normanton and enlisted at Derby. With the Notts. & Derby. Regiment he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 1 March 1915. Serving with the 1/5th Battalion he died of wounds in Flanders on 12 April 1915, aged 30 years. He was buried in Loker Cemetery, Belgium. He was the son of Steven and Ann Steeples, of Laurel Bank, Derby and the husband of Annie Steeples, of The Banks, Youlgrave, Bakewell, Derbyshire.

With original documents (3) to accompany the medals - addressed to Mrs A. Steeples; together with another document to accompany the memorial plaque (not with lot). With copied service papers and casualty details.
