George James Sadler enlisted on 18 November 1899, aged 19 years, 5 months. With ‘E’ Company, 1st Battalion Derbyshire Regiment he served in South Africa and was appointed a Lance-Corporal in October 1901. Promoted to Serjeant in June 1906. With ‘A’ Company, 1st Battalion he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war in 4 November 1914 (entitled to clasp to his Star). In hospital in December 1914 and was evacuated to England in January 1915. He returned to the front in April 1917, serving with ‘B’ Company. Wounded/shell shock, 22 November 1917 but was able to return to duty in December 1917. Discharged to a pension on 17 November 1920. Sadler died at Long Eaton in 1928. With copied research.
