John Fraser was born in Inverness. A Tailor by occupation, he attested for one years service in the Imperial Yeomanry - Lovat’s Scouts at Beaufort on 10 May 1901, aged 24 years, 8 months. With the 113th/114th Company Imperial Yeomanry (Lovat’s Scouts) he served in South Africa, June 1901-August 1902. With copied service papers.
