Alfred Charles Hastings was born in Islington, Middlesex. A Plasterer by occupation, he attested for the Royal Artillery at London on 19 July 1894, aged 19 years, 9 months. He served in South Africa with the 10th Mountain Battery R.G.A. Transferred to the Army Reserve in September 1902; discharged on 18 July 1906. In the Great War he served with the 109th Mountain Battery R.G.A.; entering France on 22 September 1914. Later transferred to the Royal Flying Corps. Awarded the King’s medal with two clasps. Q.S.A. clasps not confirmed. With some copied service papers and m.i.c.
