Benjamin Harper was born in Ross, Herefordshire on 13 October 1872. He attested for short service with the Imperial Yeomanry at Selly Oak, Birmingham on 13 February 1901. He served with the 16th (Worcestershire) Company, 5th Battalion Imperial Yeomanry, March 1901-September 1902. Discharged at the end of his period of engagement at Aldershot, 15 September 1902. As a Private in the Worcestershire Yeomanry he entered the Egyptian theatre of war on 24 April 1915. He died there on 5 November 1917, aged 46 years and was buried in the Kantara War Memorial Cemetery. He was the son of John and Mary Ann Harper and husband of Annie Elizabeth Harper, of Post Office Lane, Fernhill Heath, Worcester. Entitled to a 1914-15 Star trio. With copied birth certificate, service papers, m.i.c. and other research.
