China 1900, 1 clasp, Relief of Pekin (Major W. S. P. Ricketts, Indian Medical Service) officially re-engraved naming, good very fine £200-250

William Symonds Percival Ricketts was born on 1 November 1863. Gained the degrees of M.B., C.M. Ed. in 1886. Appointed Surgeon, I.M.S. on 30 March 1889; promoted to Major in March 1901 and Lieutenant-Colonel in March 1909. Retired June 1910 but rejoined the service during 1914-18. Served as Lieutenant-Colonel on the hospital ship Goorkha and at the Indian General Hospital, Brighton. H.M.H.S. Goorkha was mined off Malta on 10 October 1917 but remained afloat and sustained no casualties. Dr Ricketts died on 9 May 1939.
