Reginald Alexander Martin was born on 15 March 1897 and educated at Uppingham. On leaving school he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the 2/3rd Home Counties (Cinque Ports) Brigade Royal Field Artillery on 21 September 1915 and was promoted to Lieutenant in June 1916. Appointed a Flying Officer in the R.F.C. in March 1917. Served in No. 100 Squadron from November 1917. Placed on the Unemployed List of the R.A.F. and disembodied on 12 March 1919.
