Frederick Moreton West was born in Ealing, Middlesex. A Carpenter by occupation and a member of the 1st Cinque Ports Rifle Volunteer Company, he attested for short service with the Royal Sussex Regiment at Hastings on 11 March 1902, aged 20 years, 2 months. With the 1st Battalion he served in South Africa, April 1902-July 1902. He was discharged at his own request in July 1902. With copied service papers and roll extracts.
