Edward Charles Garrett T. Hessing was born on 15 December 1899. A Student by occupation, he joined the Royal Air Force as a Cadet in 1918. At his demobilisation in 1920 he was granted the honorary rank of 2nd Lieutenant. With copied service papers.

Some research notes indicate he might be the ‘G. J. Hessing’ who was headmaster at the Victoria School, Kurseong, West Bengal, September 1940-July 1941.
