William Edward Godsall was born in Bromyard, Hereford on 30 January 1848. A Cabinet Maker by occupation, he enlisted into the Royal Marines at Birmingham on 30 January 1866. He attained the rank of Sergeant in August 1873. Discharged in February 1887.
