Naval General Service 1793-1840, 1 clasp, Trafalgar (Anthy. Royal) suspension slack, nearly very fine £5000-5500

Confirmed on the rolls as Bosun’s Mate aboard H.M.S. Spartiate at Trafalgar.

Anthony Royal was born near Yarmouth in about 1778. Mustered as Thomas Reid,
alias Anthony Royal, he served as Yeoman of the Sheets until 1 May 1805, and thereafter as Bosun’s Mate.

H.M.S.
Spartiate was a 74 gun third rate ship of the line, captured from the French at the battle of the Nile in August 1798. Commanded by Captain Sir Francis Laforey, Bart., she was part of the Weather Division at Trafalgar where she had 3 killed and 17 wounded. After the battle she took the French prize Tonnant in tow to Gibraltar.
