Arthur Gilbert Knowles was born in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. An Ironmonger by occupation, he joined the 69th Company Imperial Yeomanry at Shorncliffe on 19 March 1900. Served in South Africa, 31 March 1900-24 June 1901 and was discharged at home on 1 July 1901. Knowles re-engaged at London on 18 September 1901 and served with the 1st Norfolk Volunteer Artillery. Served in South Africa once more, 19 October 1901-30 August 1902. Discharged at Aldershot on 7 September 1902. With copied service details.
