A Second World War ‘Civil Defence’ B.E.M. group of four awarded to Station Master A. R. Harnden, Southern Railway Company, late King’s Royal Rifle Corps

B.E.M. London Gazette 10 June 1944. ‘Albert Robert Harnden, Station Master, Southern Railway Company, Pluckley. For services to Divil Defence.’

During the Great War Harnden served in the King’s Royal Rifle Company before being transferred to the Machine Gun Corps. A note with the lot states that he was awarded the B.E.M. ‘for services to his country at Martin Hill (Dover Area) 1939-45 on the railway, including the special Dunkirk evacuation trains.’
