John David Squires, who was born in Luton, Bedfordshire, in August 1919, enlisted in the Royal Artillery in December 1939. Accompanying notes also state that he witnessed active service in North Africa and Italy with 19th Field Regiment, R.A., and that he was wounded in the latter theatre of war on 20 February 1944. He was also mentioned in despatches for his ‘distinguished services in the Mediterranean theatre’ (
London Gazette 23 May 1946 refers). Squires died in Bedford in June 1986.
