Three: Major J. A. H. Jephson, Indian Army

John Arthur Holmes Jephson was born in March 1902, the son of Major John Noble Jephson,of Paignton, Devon, and was educated at Wellington and the R.M.C. Sandhurst. Originally commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the 16th/5th Lancers in December 1922, he transferred to the Indian Army in January 1927, with an appointment in the 4/1 Punjab Regiment, and was advanced to Captain and Company Officer in December 1930. Removing to the 18th Cavalry in early 1932, he went on to witness active service in the North West Frontier operations of 1935, prior to brief attachment to the 15th Lancers in 1937. Advanced to Major in the 18th Cavalry in December 1939, he served as an instructor at the Cadet College, Bangalore in the 1939-45 War, in addition to holding an appointment as O.C. Records, Indian Armoured Corps. The Major, who was placed on the Retired List in 1947, died in 1967.
