Cyril Aubrey Morrison was born in Shankill, Belfast. An Apprentice Engineer by occupation, he enlisted at Belfast, aged 16 years. As Private 1028 in the North Irish Horse, he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 4 May 1915. He later transferred to the 1st Battalion Royal Irish Rifles as Private 40933. In the Belfast Evening Telegraph of 1 May 1917 it was reported that he had been wounded and was being treated in a hospital. Morrison subsequently recovered and returned to the front. He was killed in action on 16 August 1917, aged 18 years, during the battle of Langemarck (part of the Third Battle of Ypres). Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial. He was the son of William Todd Morrison and Madelaine M. Morrison, of 101 Lintlestone Road, Belfast.
