Five: Captain W. A. Pinkerton, Royal Marine Light Infantry

1914 Star (Depot 348 Q.M.S.I. of P.T., R.M. Brigade); British War and Victory Medals, M.I.D. oakleaf (Capt., R.M.L.I.); Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., G.V.R., 1st issue (Po.9628 Sergt., R.M.L.I.) mounted as worn; together with an additional 1914-15 Star (Lieut. W. A. Pinkerton, R.M.L.I.) this in named card box of issue, nearly extremely fine (5) £320-360

M.I.D. London Gazette 4 January 1917 (Haig, France).

W. A. Pinkerton qualified for the 1914 Star as a Quartermaster Sergeant Instructor of Physical Training, Deal Detachment, R.M.L.I. serving at Dunkirk. Awarded the 1914 Star at the R.M. Depot Deal, 9 December 1919; not entitled to clasp. Commissioned a Temporary Lieutenant in the Royal Marines, 13 May 1915 and promoted to Temporary Captain on 30 May 1916. Invalided from the Dardanelles with a septic hand in May 1915. By November 1916 was serving in France but invalided to England in December 1916. Commended for the setting up of R.M.A. guns - for which he probably received his mention. On Garrison Home Duty from February 1917. Promoted to Captain in January 1920. Placed on the Retired List in 1922 and removed from the Reserve of Officers in 1927. Recalled for the Second World War, he was awarded King Haakon VII’s Liberty Cross in 1947. He died on 27 February 1965.
