Albert E. Sartin was born in Trowbridge, Wiltshire on 26 April 1864. A Boatman by occupation, he enlisted into the Royal Marines at Bristol on 26 November 1883. Served with the R.M. battalion in Egypt and was awarded the Egypt Medal with two clasps and Khedive’s Star. Later, living in Canada he joined the Winnipeg Rifles in 1909 as an Instructor and during the Great War he served overseas with the 8th Battalion Canadian Infantry.

With copied R.M. service papers and roll extract. Also with a newspaper cutting dated 1955, which states: ‘Albert E, Sartin, who joined the Royal Marines in 1883 and was wounded four times in two wars as well as being gassed, was 92 yesterday. ......’ The cutting bears a picture of the elderly Mr Sartin wearing his medals.
