George Magill Dobson was born on 11 April 1861. Qualified as an M.B. Appointed a Surgeon, afterwards Surgeon Captain on 31 January 1885, promoted to Surgeon Major in March 1897. Served in the Sudan, 1885-86 and in Lushai, 1892.

Placed on the Retired List on 31 January 1905, and was employed whilst on the List in Shrewsbury, 1908-09.

Re-employed during the Great War from 4 August 1914.
