John Frederick Dent was born in Enfield, Midlesex on 16 April 1877. Entering the Royal Navy in October 1898, he attained the rank of Chief Engine Room Artificer 1st Class in November 1915. Awarded the L.S. & G.C. in 1913 on the protected cruiser Venus. During the war he served on the detroyer Acheron, April 1914-September 1916 and March-August 1917, seeing action at the battles of Heligoland Bight, Dogger Bank and Jutland. Also involved in the sinking of the German submarine U.12, 10 March 1915.

Thomas Arthur Hind was born in Gloucester on 8 January 1871. Entering the Royal Navy in April 1899, he attained the rank of C.E.R.A. 1st Class in September 1915. Served on the light cruiser Dartmouth, September 1913-June 1915, for which service he was awarded the Naval General Service with clasp for Persian Gulf and the L.S. & G.C. in 1914. Later in the war he served on the destroyer Ossory, November 1915-February 1920, seeing action at the battle of Jutland.

George Neven Dodd was born in Jarrow-on-Tyne, Co. Duham on 8 March 1874. Entering the Royal Navy in November 1899. In Barfleur, October 1900 March 1901, he saw service in China and was awarded the medal without clasp. During the war he served on the battleship Agamemnon, February 1915-November 1917, taking part in the Dardanelles campaign 1915 and later operations in the eastern Mediterranean.
