Walter Stark was born in Hull on 6 November 1873. Entering the Royal Navy in June 1895, he attained the rank of Chief Engine Room Artificer 1st Class in April 1911. Awarded the L.S. & G.C. in 1910 at Excellent (Portsmouth). Served on Magpie, December 1915-January 1919.

William Henry Matthews was born in Penzance, Cornwall on 5 March 1872. Entering the Royal Navy in January 1896, he attained the rank of C.E.R.A. 2nd Class in March 1916. Awarded the L.S. & G.C. in 1910 on the armoured cruiser
Defence. Served on Blake, August 1912-January 1918.

Edgar Jones was born in Hampstead, London and entered the Royal Navy in October 1895. Attaining the rank of C.E.R.A. 1st Class in November 1909, he was awarded the L.S. & G.C. in 1910. Served throughout the Great War.

Albert John Baker was born in Aston, Worcestershire on 13 May 1871. Entering the Royal Navy in December 1895, he attained the rank of E.R.A. 1st Class in September 1910. Awarded the L.S. & G.C. in 1911 on the battlecruiser
New Zealand. Served on submarines B.1 and C.18, May 1915-December 1918. In June 1897 Baker was convicted by the civil powers and sentenced to two months imprisonment for ‘bastardy.
