Thomas Crockett Bentley was born in Biirmingham on 17 September 1861. Entering the Royal Navy in JUne 1884, he attained the rank of Chief Engine Room Artificer 1st Class in February 1903. Awarded the L.S. & G.C. in 1894 on the coastal defence ship Magdala based at Bombay. Served on the royal yacht Victoria and Albert, July 1901-June 1903, for which service he was awarded the coronation medal. Pensioned on July 1906.
