Reginald Cuthbert Watkins was born in Bristol on 28 July 1889. He entered the Royal Navy from school, being appointed a Boy Artificer on 28 February 1905. Just prior to the Great War he entered the submarine service, being appointed an Engine Room Artificer 3rd Class on Dolphin, January 1914. He was again based on Dolphin, November 1914-October 1915 serving on the old submarine A.5, then on B.11 during January-October 1916. He attained the rank of E.R.A. 2nd Class in January 1917 when at Egmont (Malta). Watkins later served on Adamant, Theseus and Foresight and was demobilised on 18 November 1919. With copied service paper.

John James Watson was born in Sunnybrow, Co. Durham on 25 June 1867. A Boiler Maker by occupation, he entered the Royal Navy as an Acting Erngine Room Artificer 4th Class on 27 August 1891, attaining the rank of C.E.R.A. 2nd Class in August 1909. Although Pensioned in August 1913, he returned to the service in August 1914, serving until June 1915 when he was invalided due to heart problems.
