Reginald Haynes was born in Torpoint, Cornwall on 6 November 1884. An Engine Fitter & Turner by occupation, he entered the the Royal Navy as an Acting Engine Room Artificer 4th Class on 26 September 1906. As an E.R.A. 2nd Class he entered the Great War serving on the destroyer Rifleman. In October 1917 he was appointed Acting Artificer Engineer and Warrant Engineer. Promoted to Commissioned Engineer in 1927 and Lieutenant in 1932, he retired as a Lieutenant-Commander in 1935. With copied research.
