‘Tom Gwyn Gatenby (23), Farmer, 42 The Limes Avenue, New Southgate, London, on 16th October 1927, lost his life while endeavouring to rescue his fiancée from drowning at Linn of Dee, Braemar. The girl slipped on the rocks and fell into the river. Gatenby immediately jumped in after her, but both were washed down into a pool below and were drowned.’ The deceased rescuer’s parents were awarded a Memorial Certificate.
