The Quiver Magazine began in 1865 as an illustrated paper for Sunday and General reading - the magazine had a strong Protestant flavour. In 1885 it was decided that a medal would be issued for acts of bravery reported to the magazine. Naturally these acts were recorded and sometimes illustrated in the magazine.
The volumes for ‘1891’ and ‘1892’ record some details of the rescues; the volume for ‘1899’ records several full-page illustrations to accompany the descriptions.
