Ex D.N.W. 9 December 1999.

The Sheffield Society for the Recognition of Bravery was established by Colonel Sir John E. Bingham, Bart., circa 1900, who undertook to pay all the expenses of its working, to reward any person residing in the City of Sheffield, including the borough of Rotherham, who has performed a conspicuous act of bravery which falls outside the scope of the Royal Humane Society.
