Provenance: Spink, March 1995, ‘Orders and Medals bestowed upon the 9th Earl of Shaftesbury’.

Anthony Ashley-Cooper, 9th Earl of Shaftesbury, K.P., P.C., G.C.V.O., C.B.E. (1869-1961) was one of the last two Knights of the Order of St. Patrick to be created. He was invested, along with Field Marshal Earl Kitchener of Khartoum, personally by King George V at Dublin Castle on 10 July 1911. At the time of his death the 9th Earl was the last surviving non-Royal Knight of the Order.
