Alfred Sherwood Warner, who was born near Fort Beaufort in the Cape of Good Hope, enlisted as a boy recruit in the 62nd (Wiltshire) Regiment at Clonmel, Co. Tipperary, in December 1877, aged 15 years. He subsequently served with the regiment for almost 20 years, being discharged as a Sergeant-Major in the 3rd (Militia) Battalion in October 1897. But he witnessed no active service, his sole medal entitlement being the L.S. & G.C. Medal which he was awarded in AO 75 of April 1896; sold with copied service papers.
