British War Medal 1914-20 (Lieut. C. E. R. Albrecht) nearly extremely fine £60-80

Charles Esmond Redlin Albrecht was born in Altringham, Cheshire on 24 November 1892, the son of Charles Edwin Albrecht, Gentleman, and Mabel Frances Margaret Albrecht, nee Lane. He was educated at Oakham School, 1903-10. Serving as a Lieutenant with the 2nd Battalion South Lancashire Regiment, he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 14 August 1914. He was in action with his unit at the battle of Mons. Reports indicate he was wounded in the leg and evacuated to St. Quentin Hospital. The hospital was reported as being shelled and later captured by the advancing Germans. He was listed as missing on 24 August 1914, this later amended to him being killed on that date. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the La Ferte-sous-Juarre Memorial, Seine-et-Marne, France. His parents at the time of his death were living at ‘Trevanion, Plympton, Devon.

With copied papers mainly relating to him being posted missing and his death; also with copied m.i.c. Amongst the papers is a copied letter from his father who was supplying the War Office with reports of last sightings of his son from various members of the regiment, in the hope that he might be located alive. Awarded the 1914 Star and clasp trio of medals.
