South Africa 1877-79, 1 clasp, 1879 (T/665 2nd C.S. Sergt. J. Blake, A.S. Corps) edge bruising, contact marks, nearly very fine £320-360

James Blake was born in Farnham, Surrey. A Baker by occupation, he attested for the Military Train at Aldershot on 2 September 1868. With the Military Train and Army Service Corps he served in South Africa, February-October 1879; Egypt, August 1882-March 1883 and July 1886-October 1890. For his services he was awarded the South Africa Medal with clasp; the Egypt Medal 1882 with clasp for Gemaizah 1888 and Khedive’s Star. For his services in Suakin 1888-89 he was mentioned in despatches. Staff Sergeant-Major Blake retired on 12 April 1892.
