William Nancollas Hancock was born in Bodmin, Cornwall on 6 April 1848. He first entered the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class on Impregnable in October 1862. He attained the rank of Petty Officer 1st Class in September 1876. Shore Pensioned in October 1887.
