India, Hugh Spankie, 1919, a uniface cast bronze portrait medal, signature unclear, bust left, 105mm (Pudd. –). About very fine, very rare £60-80

Hugh Vernon Spankie (b. 1892); enlisted in Royal Dublin Fusiliers, August 1914, transferred to 15 Sikhs, served in Gallipoli, Egypt, France and Belgium (wounded), awarded the MC; served in Iraq 1918; captain, 14 (King George’s Own) Sikhs, 1919; appointed Major, 1/11 Sikhs, 1933; appointed adjutant, 1934, then deputy assistant Adjutant-General, May 1940; appointed Lt-Col, November 1941; lived in retirement in Tonbridge, Kent, recipient of IGS medal with 4 clasps (Afghanistan NWF 1919, Kurdistan, NWF 1930-1, Mohmand)
