France, Union Nationale des Officiers de Reserve, c. 1915, a uniface gilt-bronze award plaque by E. Cournault for Arthus-Bertrand, soldier in the act of throwing a grenade towards a fort barricaded by barbed wire, back named (To Lieut-Gen. Sir Charles Grant, K.C.B., from The French Reserve Officers, May 1939), 86 x 63mm (cf. DNW 44, 909). About extremely fine; in maroon fitted case of issue by Arthus-Bertrand, Paris £80-100

General Sir Charles John Cecil Grant, KCB, KCVO, DSO (1877-1950), lived at Pitchford Manor, Shropshire; commissioned into the Coldstream Guards, 1897; served in Boer War; brigade major for the 3rd Infantry Brigade in the BEF deployed to France, 1914; temporary commander of 1st Infantry Brigade, 1917; liaison officer at the general headquarters of the French arms, 1918; commanding officer of 3rd Bn Coldstream Guards, 1919; commander of 137 (Staffordshire) Brigade, 1925; commander of 8th Infantry Brigade, 1927; general officer commanding 53rd (Welsh) division, 1930; major-general commanding the Brigade of Guards, 1932; honorary colonel of the KSLI 1930-46; governor of Edinburgh Castle 1937-40. His papers are in the National Library of Wales
