Great Britain, RMS Celtic, c.1910, an enamelled picture brooch, unsigned, vessel steaming left, detail picked out in red, blue, white and black enamel, 35mm (cf. DNW 46, 901). Extremely fine and very rare, the colours particularly fresh, with pin back for wearing; in fitted case by Sawyer, 7 Westgate, Peterborough (£80-100)

RMS Celtic II, the last vessel ordered by Thomas H. Ismay of White Star Lines before his death; built by Harland & Wolff, Belfast, 1901 and when launched was the largest liner in the world; maiden voyage from Liverpool to New York, 26 July 1901; requisitioned as an armed merchant cruiser and fitted with eight 6-inch guns, Oct. 1914; resumed commercial service Jan. 1920; ran aground entering Cobh harbour during a storm, 10 Dec. 1928; constructive loss, broken up 1933.
