The Coventry Climax engine, originally designed in the early 1950s, became the basis for Grand Prix motor racing success from 1958 to 1965. Numerous successes were scored by Cooper, firstly with Stirling Moss, then later with Jack Brabham, who used the engine to win back-to-back world championships in 1959 and 1960. From 1961 to 1965 Coventry Climax engines powered the works Lotus team, under Colin Chapman, to constructor’s and driver’s championships with the late Jim Clark in 1963 and 1965. By 1965 Coventry Climax had been taken over by Jaguar, who announced a pull out from Formula 1 at the end of the year
