Sinking of HMSS Aboukir, Cressy and Hogue off Ijmuiden, 1914, a silver medal by F. Ziegler and H. Grunthal, bust of Otto Weddigen three-quarters left, reverse battleship being torpedoed, 34mm; Netherlands, Vrij-Heid, 1945, a bronze medal, unsigned, robed female holding sword and quill, barbed wire below, reverse lion trampling swastika, 60mm. [2]. First good fine and toned, second about extremely fine (£30-40)

The sinking of the three ships on 22 Sept. 1914 by Kapitan-Lieutnant Otto Weddigen, commander of the submarine U 9, resulted in the loss of over 1,450 lives
