Italy, Alfonso II d’Este, c.1560, a uniface cast lead portrait medal by S. Pallante, armoured bust right, wearing high collar, scarf and medal on ribbon, 56mm (cf. Arm. I, 212/2; cf. BDM IV, 367). Pierced, only fine but a strong portrait (£80-120)

Alfonso II d’Este (1537-1597: 5th Duke of Ferrara, 1559-97). The artist Simone Pallante is only known from three medals, the other subjects being Pope Pius IV (cf. Clifford 107) and Ippolito Bracciolini
