18th Century, Ireland, Dublin, J. Maculla, Penny, 1731, fleur-de-lis, reverse Justice with scales (D 52; Seaby TC2; cf. Dublinia 156). On a large flan, fine and clear, scarce (£40-50)

A better striking than the Dublinia example. Heslip (BNJ 1992) states that “it is hard to judge if Maculla’s coinage had any actual economic impact, but it seems…that it was on a small scale and that its effects were unlikely to have been felt directly outside Dublin’s economic purlieus”
