17th Century Tokens, Co Durham, Hartburn, John Emmerson, Farthing, 1667, 0.97g/12h (N –; BW –; Taylor, Yorkshire Numismatist 3, p.103, this piece). Obverse very fine, reverse fine, of the highest rarity; believed the only known token for the village but not contemporary £150-200

Provenance: Bt Spink 1972.

John Emmerson is listed in the 1666 hearth tax returns for Hartburn, a present-day suburb of Stockton-on-Tees. The full reading of the token is mm. rosette,
