John Sharp came from Beasbrook, Co. Armagh. As a Private in the Royal Irish Fusiliers he entered France on 4 October 1915 for which he was awarded the 1914-15 Star. The 9th Battalion Royal Irish Fusiliers suffered over 500 casualties on 1 July 1916 and absorbed two squadrons of the 2nd North Irish Horse in September 1917. As a Corporal in the 9th (North Irish Horse) Battalion Royal Irish Fusiliers, he was awarded the M.M. for a night attack in the Bailleul area on 24 August 1918. He was discharged to Class ‘Z’ Reserve in March 1919.
