Joseph Bowman was born and lived in Crossgate Moor, Durham and enlisted at Durham. Serving with the 13th Battalion Durham Light Infantry, he died of wounds on 5 November 1917, aged 27 years. He was buried in the Mont Huon Military Cemetery, Le Treport, Seine-Maritime, France. He was the son of Sarah Bowman of Neville’s Cross, Co. Durham.
