A rare Russian intervention honorary D.S.O. awarded to Lieutenant-Colonel N. Gregoriades, Greek Army
Distinguished Service Order, G.V.R., silver-gilt and enamel, in its Garrard & Co. case of issue, enamel wreaths slightly chipped in places, otherwise good very fine £800-1000
Of approximately 1330 honorary awards of the D.S.O made in the Great War, 40 were awarded to Greek recipients.
Neokosmos Gregoriades was honoured for his services as C.O. of the 2nd Infantry Regiment, 13th Hellenic Division, on 8 December 1919 - accompanying original warrant, signed by Churchill, refers.
The 13th Hellenic Division was actively engaged against the Bulgarians on the Macedonian front 1917-18 and afterwards, under Major-General Konstantinos Nider, in operations against the Bolsheviks in the Crimea and Ukraine during the Allied intervention of 1919. Here, then, the most probable grounds for Gregoriades’ honorary D.S.O.
