Frederick Cousins was born at Kingston, near Portsmouth, and enlisted into the Hampshire Regiment on 11 February 1884. He served with the 1st Battalion in Burma 1887-89 (Medal), and was attached to the West African Regiment, February 1898 to July 1899 (Medal with clasp - papers say ‘1898’). He was re-posted to the 2nd Bn. Hampshire Regiment in July 1899 as a Drummer and served in the Mounted Infantry during the Boer War. He was reported missing in action at Pretoria on 5 June 1900, later released, and was dangerously wounded at Witpoort, near Heilbron, on 14 August 1900 (Medal with 4 clasps). Sold with copied discharge papers.
