Leslie William Henry George Coote was born in Wandsworth in 1912. Serving with the 2nd Battalion King’s Royal Rifle Corps, he was wounded in action during the defence of Calais, 26 May 1940. He died of his wounds later the same day aboard the trawler Botanic on his way to England. He was buried in the Dover (St. James’s) Cemetery.
