Four: Able Seaman T. G. Gibbins, Royal Navy, who was awarded the Russian St. George’s Medal Bravery for his gallant deeds in H.M.S. Thunderer at Jutland

1914-15 Star (165617 T. G. Gibbins, R.N.); British War and Victory Medals (); Russia, St. George’s Medal for Bravery, 4th Class, the reverse officially numbered ‘1272802’, this last with unofficial loop and bar suspension, together with Spink & Son Jutland commemoratives (2), attempted erasure of rank on the first three, contact marks, good fine or better (5)

Thomas George Gibbins was born in Birmingham in May 1876 and entered the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class in May 1894. An Able Seaman serving aboard the battleship H.M.S. Thunderer on the outbreak of hostilities in August 1914, he remained similarly employed until June 1918, and was present at Jutland. Coming ashore to the Devonport establishment Defiance in June 1918, he returned to sea in the battle cruiser New Zealand in September 1918 and was finally demobilised ashore in March 1919.
