Robert Brough was born in Newtown, Manchester, lived in Bradford, Lancashire and enlisted at Manchester. With the 17th Battalion Manchester Regiment he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 8 November 1915. Serving with the 1st Battalion Border Regiment, he was killed in action, France/Flanders, on 15 October 1918, aged 29 years. He was buried in the Dadizeele New British Cemetery. He was the husband of Catherine Carter (formerly Brough), of 34 Carlisle Street, Beswick, Manchester.
