Francis Arthur Rivers Malet, who was born in November 1892, entered the Royal Naval Air Service as a Temporary Flight Sub. Lieutenant in December 1915, and on qualifying as a pilot, served variously at the R.N.A.S. stations Calshot, Grain and Dover, in addition to service as a pilot in the seaplane carriers Campania and Riviera off Dunkirk. And it was in this latter capacity that he was killed when Sopwith Seaplane 8181 ploughed into the sea 300 yards off the Riviera on 12 November 1916.
