Three: Captain J. Rose, South African Medical Corps

1914-15 Star (Capt., S.A.M.C.); British War and Bilingual Victory Medals (Capt.) extremely fine (3) £80-100

John Rose was born in Daviot, near Inverness. He was educated at the Inverness Academy, Gordon’s College, Aberdeen and Aberdeen University. He graduated with a M.A. in 1898 and a M.B., Ch.B. in 1902. During 1905-09 he served with the Labour Importation Agency in China and in 1910 obtained a Diploma in Public Health from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in London. During 1913-14 Rose was employed in South Africa. He was commissioned into the S.A.M.C. in January 1915 and was attached as Regimental Medical Officer to the 6th Mounted Rifles and later to the 7th South African Horse. He saw service in German South-West Africa and later in German East Africa. Captain Rose was demobilised in November 1919. During 1920-27 he was Railway Medical Officer stationed at Graylingstad.
