Three: Private R. W. Chambers, Royal Army Medical Corps, who accidentally drowned in the Persian Gulf, 25 September 1916

Richard William Chambers was born in Manningtree, Essex and enlisted at Harwich. As a Private in the R.A.M.C. he entered the Balkan theatre of war on 18 October 1915. As a Private serving with the 40th Field Ambulance, R.A.M.C., he accidentally drowned in the Persian Gulf on 25 September 1916, aged 22 years. His name is commemorated on the Basra memorial.
